Last year saw the publication by
Blake Education of
our Numeracy Block books as the Natural Maths
Strategies series, together with 6 new titles, the Natural Maths
Strategies Assessment books. Blake also published our two Poster Packs that focus on mental
strategies. Our new
project with Blake has been called Strategic Maths -
Number, and will have materials that cover the use of maths
strategies in number from Beginning Level through to Upper Primary 2. As
soon as we can, we'll provide a full description of the series, but for now, we
would just like to say that each level has a technology component giving slide
sequences and applets for the key maths strategies at all levels.
We plan
to continue our interest in interactive whiteboard use. It really is time for innovation
with ICTs and maths and the IWB promises a great deal ... once we fully
understand the contribution it can make to teaching.
Our maths
competition, the 2008 Naturally Mathematical Challenge, for Semester
2 is just beginning. The
questions for the Challenges will be freely available on this site - if you want to
join the competition and receive feedback for your teams please register on the
Form provided.
Over
the last 10 year, Natural Maths has developed a range of publications,
that are based on helping teachers to bring lively and
educationally-sound activities to their maths teaching.
Our
Fun Stuff section includes the wonderful world of Hexagonia and if you
haven't seen the amazing 6-sided figure in which the numbers from 1 to 63
are positioned to make all the rows in all of three directions add to the same
total of 1953, then take a moment to enjoy. We couldn't help
becoming involved in the latest phenomenon Sudoku.
It's the new number puzzle that is grabbing young and old, and we just might
have a contribution that could 'make your day'! It's an Excel
spreadsheet that lends a hand in finding a solution and was developed in
collaboration with Steve Sugden from the e-journal for Spreadsheets
in Education.
