Mental Computation: Using Natural Maths Strategies
Modern maths syllabuses move closer and closer a formal
recognition of the central role that 'in the mind' strategies have in
the learning of maths. While electronic tills and computers replace the
need for formal calculations, the need for ability with mental maths
strategies grows all the more important.

With this in mind, it was decided to create a series of posters that
could foster the development of a range of strategies. The posters are
now out of print, but they are still available in the Mental Computation books
that accompanied them. Click here to download an example of a poster
from the Lower Primary book.
The
Mental Computation books
that suggest activities and investigations that allow the students to
show their own understanding of the strategies and to develop confidence
in using strategies to solve arithmetical problems. |
