Strategic Maths - Number
This is a 7-book series that focuses on the Number strand
of the curriculum and on the use of the Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) for
teaching maths. Each book in the series has 6 units which each include:
- A Top 5 for
each unit that sets goals for the learner
- CD-based teaching
sequences covering the unit topics using the IWB (or
computer and data projector if you do not have an IWB)
- Short programs called applets
that help students practice new skills in a game-like environment
- Open-ended activities
that enable students to show how they are progressing and how
confident they are with new strategies
- A variety of new maths
games that give practice in a fun way
- new mental routines to supplement those in the
Natural Maths Strategies series.
- A problematised situation
similar to those in Natural Maths Strategies series, but with an
added 'tick and
flick' rubric to show how the student solutions can be assessed on
an A - E scale
- A sample test
in the NAPLAN style to give students in Years 3 - 7 experience with that form of
assessment
We have also put together a spreadsheet
that shows how the activities and investigations from both the Strategic
Maths - Number series and the Natural Maths Strategies series link
with the Essential Learnings and hence with the NAPLAN tests.
Pricing
Each of the 7 books in the series is $69.95 and
includes a site license for the software on the Teacher CD, which means
that the CD can be put on your school network or computers. There is
also a special Student CD that enables you to put the applets on a
student memory stick (flash drive) for them to take home and use with
their parents.
